A new room opened this year at J. E. Ober Elementary. We call it the Minds in Motion Room. It is an obstacle course designed to help students develop academically, socially, behaviorally, and athletically.  While using the maze, each student pushes, looks, rolls, crawls, steps, stomps, jumps, walks, balances, and slides to a stronger body and mind. The course helps to develop the vestibular system of each student who goes through it. This system coordinates and relays information from our sensory inputs (eyes, fingertips, skin, ears, etc.) to our brain. A lack of development within this system can cause many issues including academic problems.

Minds in Motion was developed by Candace S. Meyer. We have patterned our room just as her handbook suggests. Each day, 20-25 classrooms and several smalls groups use the room. That’s about 625 students! Changes are made to the stations about every two weeks.  Watch Mrs. Kruse’s class showing you how they use the obstacle course!
